With very heavy hearts, we bid farewell to a beloved soul, Zerney Jackson Gano, affectionately known as Cowboy Jack, who passed on September 4, 2023. His departure leaves an emptiness that can only be filled by the mark he left on the lives and hearts of his family, friends, and all who knew him.
Born in 1945 in Tampa, Florida, Jack's journey through life was one marked by sacrifice, compassion, and an unwavering dedication to those he held dear. He was a beloved son, brother, husband, father, and friend, who touched the lives of everyone he met with his kindness and generosity.
Jack's passion for life showed in everything he pursued. An Army Veteran and in his later years, and avid dancer, his artistic and vibrant spirit inspired those around him to enjoy each day to the fullest.
Cowboy Jack's impact reached beyond his military service and dance moves. His love of nature led him to study Horticulture at the University of Florida, and he put that education to use by establishing a small but successful business in North Florida.
Jack's memory will be forever treasured not only by his biological family, but also by his wide circle of friends who became family. He is survived by his children Jill Gano, David Gano, and Kevin Gano, their mother Sandi Gano, his siblings Jan Robinson, Pamela Caro, Arthur Adkins, Mario Gano, 8 grandchildren, and nieces and nephews too numerous to count.
A service will take place on Saturday September 16, 2023, at Hopewell Baptist Cemetery in Murphy, NC (215 Hopewell Rd, 28906). Friends and Family are invited to come together to honor Jack's memory, share stories, and find solace in one another. A Celebration of Life, to be held in November by his family in Florida, will be announced soon.
As we mourn Jack's passing, remember to also celebrate the remarkable life he lived. Rest in peace Father, Grandfather, Son, Brother, Uncle - We, your family, will miss you more than you can know.
