Wofford Kelley

October 27, 1930 — December 27, 2013

Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville announces funeral services for Rev. Wofford Kelley, age 83 native and lifelong resident of Blairsville, who passed away Friday evening, December 27, 2013 at his home.

Wofford was born on October 27, 1930, in Blairsville, a son of the late William Edge Kelley and the late Myrtle Mae Walker Kelley. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. After graduation from Union County High School, Wofford attended North Georgia Technical School. After completing his studies, he opened his own TV and Radio Sales and Repair Shop, which he operated for over 5 years. After this time, Wofford worked for Colwell Construction Company as comptroller, as well as his many other duties for over 20 years. During this period of time, Wofford became an ordained minister and one of the co-founders of the Blairsville Christian Center. Rev. Kelley also assisted Rev. Franklin Walden in his evangelistic ministry for 11 years. In the late 1970's, he became the senior pastor of the Blairsville Christian Center until his passing. Wofford had a heart for missions and went on many missionary journeys to Mexico, The Ukraine, England, and Wales.

After his retirement from Colwell Construction Company, Wofford opened another business, Kelley Computer Services. The business expanded to include payroll services, tax preparation, and bookkeeping for small companies. He also served his community for 40 years as an election official for Union County. Wofford was a many-faceted individual, having interests and hobbies that spanned things from gold mining to beekeeping and much more. Preceding Wofford in death was his sister, Sarah Elizabeth Helton.

Rev. Kelley was well-known and loved throughout the community. The loss of his presence in the community will be great; he will especially be missed by his loving family members: wife, Sarah Kelley, of Blairsville; son and daughter-in-law, Michael Royce and Kathie Kelley of Lawrenceville, Georgia; daughter and son-in-law, Rita Ann and Chris Carr, of Blairsville; sister, Louise DeLong, of Blairsville; sister, Maudell Kelley, of Blairsville; sister, Susie Phillips, of Blairsville; and brother, Herbert Richard Kelley, also of Blairsville; 5 grandchildren: Brandon Robert Carr, Ryan Michael Carr, Arenda Marie Garcia, April Nicole Kelley, and Andrew Logan Kelley; one great granddaughter, Eva Maria Garcia. Many other relatives and friends also survive.
