Cochran Funeral Home and Crematory of Blairsville announces funeral services for Mrs. Willie C. Turner, age 89, of Pat Haralson Dr. in Blairsville, who passed away on Saturday, July 12, 2014, in Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, Georgia.
Mrs. Turner was born in Union County, Georgia, on March 27, 1925, a daughter of the late Juan Will Chambers and the late Eva Gilbert Chambers. She had been preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, Frank Burton Turner.Grandma Willie was loved by everyone. She was everybody's "Grandma Willie".....even people she didn't really know loved her. At the nursing home, she was a favorite to many of her caretakers, and had lived a long life of 89 years. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and a friend to all, always putting other people first before herself. She was a hard worker, and worked hard all of her life. She retired from Georgia Boot, where she had worked for twenty-six years. She was the strongest person - a Christian woman, strong in her faith. She was a member of Youngstown Baptist Church and was the first member to join the church at the age of 14 on December 14th, 1940.
She loved planting flowers, making a garden, and growing her own vegetables. Grandma Willie canned and preserved her vegetables for later meals, and was a great cook. Everybody loved to come and eat at Grandma Willie's house. Her biscuit and gravy were favorites of all of her grandchildren - she was always cooking for a crowd of people. Everyone was expected to eat and if you were hungry when you left it was your own fault! She loved making candy at Christmas that everybody loved - peanut butter balls, coconut and fudge....She loved her Lancaster Tobacco and Tops Sweet Snuff that she had used for years. Grandma Willie has been the rock in our family for all these years. We were truly blessed to have had her in our lives for 89 years. We are also grateful that she was able to see all four of her grandchildren get married, and that she was able to be an important part of her eight great grandchildren's lives. Grandma Willie, we love you and miss you, and we will see you in heaven someday...
She will be fondly remembered by all who knew her, but especially missed by her family: son, Charles F. Turner, of Blairsville; and daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Ronnie Anderson, of Blairsville; and two sisters: Thelma Cash and Clara Watson. Also, sharing in her legacy are four grandchildren: Brandon Anderson, Briana Anderson Smith, Misty Turner Gibson, and Shea Turner Richardson and eight great grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Turner will be held on Tuesday, July 15, 2014, at 1:00 p.m., to be held in the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville, with Rev. Jonathon Hood officiating. The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as pallbearers: Billy Watson, Ronnie Cash, Bart Cox, W.H. Turner, Curtis Turner, Brandon Anderson, Kelly Richardson & Wayne Gibson.
