William Taylor Kephart, age 87 of Murphy, passed away Saturday, December 5, 2015 at the home of his brother. He was a veteran of the US Army, serving from 1950-1960, where he served in Germany as well as in Korea during the Korean Conflict. He was a Drill Operator for Harrison Construction Company before he retired. He had a faith in God, the hope of a better place and eternal life. He was a Deacon at the Grandview Baptist Church in Murphy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam W. and Minnie Harper Kephart, a brother, Jack L. Kephart, and a sister, Lois K. Truett.
He is survived by one brother, Joe R. Kephart and Wanda, two sisters, Betty K. Kidd and Wendell, Judy K Dockery and James, also several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm- 1:45 pm on Tuesday, December 8, 2015 followed by the funeral services at 2:00 pm at the chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Murphy with Rev. Jake Easter and Rev. Donald Cook officiating. Pallbearers include Wendell Kidd, Jamie Hogan, Jonathan Hogan, Jack Killian, Lloyd Clark, and Ted Hughes. Honorary Pallbearers will be Sam Dockery, Ray Harper, James Hogan, and the Men of Grandview Baptist Church. Interment will be at Hanging Dog Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors provided by the Murphy VFW Post 10222, Joe Miller Elkin American Legion Post 96, DAV Chapter 73 and Clay County VFW Post 6812. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars local chapters or vfw.org.
