The Cochran Funeral Home & Crematory of Blairsville announces Memorial Services for Bill Richardson, age 80, of Blairsville, Georgia, who passed away suddenly on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 in Union General Hospital
Bill was born on June 28, 1938 in Philadelphia, PA, the son of the late William Sr., and Helen Butler Richardson. Bill and wife Barbara moved to Blairsville in 1988, formerly residing in Palm Beach County, Florida. He served in the USMC Reserves and U.S. Army Veteran. He graduated from Army Basic Training at Fort Dix, NJ, then to Fort Knox, KY, where he graduated from Armour School. He served in the Armour and Heavy Mortar Division in Ft. Benning, GA, where he met his future wife Barbara. Bill was sent to Korea with the 38th Artillery and Tank Division. He was honorably discharged on March 27, 1959 at Ft. Sheridan, Illinois.
Surviving family members include wife, Barbara P. Richardson, of Blairsville; son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey P. and Lynn M. Richardson, of Ridgeland, SC; sister and husband, Kathy R. and Lee Barker; brother-in-laws: Mike Williams of Bonneau, SC and Sherman (Pete) Williams of Winnsboro, LA; nieces, Crystal and Jimmy Armstrong of West Monroe, LA; Cheryl Williams of Winnsboro, LA; sister-in-laws, Nancy Williams and Debbie Williams both of Columbus, GA; grandson: William Lavaughn Richardson and spouse Jordon Hunicutt Richardson of Ridgeland, SC.
Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 15, 2019 at Old Union Baptist Church in Young Harris, GA, with Rev. Ricky Rogers and Rev. Jimmy Rogers officiating. The family will meet with friends at the church starting at 10:00 a.m. on Friday. Military Honors Ceremony will be presented by the North Georgia Honor Guard. Inurnment will be held on June 28, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Georgia National Cemetery, 2025 Mount Carmel Church, Canton, GA 30114.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Cancer Society at www.cancer.org or to the North Georgia Honor Guard at P.O. Box 2013, Blairsville, GA 30514.
