William "bill" Brown

Obituary: Mr. William "Bill" Brown, caring Christian, loving husband and devoted father passed away Sunday, August 16, 2009 at the age of 84 in Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, GA. Mr. Brown, who had lived in Hiawassee for the last 20 years, was known for his sense of humor, his adventurous spirit, and his willingness to lend a helping hand.

Mr. Brown was born in Atlanta, GA to the late Alva and Jewell Hutchinson Brown and spent his younger years playing baseball, learning to work with wood and riding his bicycle (sometimes backwards). Prior to his move to Hiawassee, he lived in Smyrna, GA and the Ben Hill, Cascade Heights and Grove Park sections of Atlanta.

Mr. Brown and his wife Faye owned and operated Brown's Insurance Agency in Atlanta and later in Mableton, GA. He was a member of McConnell Memorial Baptist Church in Hiawassee, GA., a deacon in several Baptist churches, a WWII US Navy Veteran, a member of the Masonic Lodge and a member of the Friendship Community Club. Prior to his retirement, he sang baritone in a church quartet.

He is survived by his wife, Faye Brown of Hiawassee, GA, daughter, Cindy Brown of Pine Lake, GA, son, Scott Brown of Golden, CO, and a sister, Margaret Abernathy of Lithia Springs, GA. Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 20, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. from McConnell Memorial Baptist Church with Rev. Don Pickerill and Rev. Harold Zwald officiating. Music provided by Patsy Daniel. Interment will follow in Osborn Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers if you wish memorial contributions in Mr. Brown's memory may be made to the McConnell Memorial Baptist Church Building Fund, PO Box 235, Hiawassee, GA 30546 The family will receive friends and family at the funeral home Wednesday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. The Cochran Funeral Home of Hiawassee, GA in charge of arrangements.
