William "Ray" Phillips, age 76, of McCaysville, Georgia passed away Saturday, January 26, 2008 at Copper Basin Medical Center. Ray was born Thursday, February 12, 1931 in Cherokee County, NC to the late W.T. Phillips and the late Ella Bailey Phillips. He Attented McCaysville United Methodist Church and was a US Air Force Veteran.
Ray was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Kendyl was the apple of Ray's eye. He loved his church and singing for his Lord. He enjoyed gardening and he was a racing fan pulling for his favorite, Dale Ernhardt.
Survivors include: wife, Mary Phillips; daughter & son in law, Brenda and Bill Simmons of Memphis, TN; brothers, Don Phillips of Winder, Ga., Jim Phillips of the Atlanta area; sisters, Madelyn Holbrooks of Ducktown, Cathy Graves of Ware's Valley, NC; grandson, John Thomas; step-granddaughter, April Austein, Cristy Urban; step grandson, Jeremy Simmons; great-granddaughter, Kendyl Thomas; seven step great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 29, 2008 at 11:00 AM from the Finch-Cochran Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Terry Reamsnyder officiating. Interment followed in the Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Turtletown, TN with Military Honors by the North Georgia Honor Guard.
