William Lawrence Bolton
June 26, 1921- October 21, 2011
Born in Corinth, Mississippi on June 26, 1921, to Rufus Ezekiel Bolton and Ruth Pearl Maxedon Bolton. He was preceded in death by one sister, Juanita Bolton Donahoe Gilchrist. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Helen Waters Bolton, two children, W. Lawrence Bolton, Jr. and his wife, Janice of Columbia, Tennessee, daughter, Anne Bolton Arp and her husband, David of Morris Plains, New Jersey, a brother, Kenneth Brumley of Tulsa, Oklahoma. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Before coming to Copperhill, where he worked for Cities Service until retiring in 1979, he had retired from Honeywell, Inc., Philadelphia, PA living in Chalfont, PA. He was a charter member and an Elder of Lenape Valley Presbyterian Church, New Britain Township, PA.
Bill spent his childhood in Selmer, Tennessee. After graduating from high school in 1939, he enlisted in the US Army Air Corps. He went on to flying school and was a fighter pilot during the latter part of WWII, although he remained stateside for the duration. After the war, he enrolled at Georgia Tech, graduating in 1949 with a degree in Industrial Engineering. He remained in the Air Force reserve and was recalled in 1952, serving in Korea for a year flying reconnaissance over North Korea.
Bill was an active member of the Copper Basin community, serving the Lion's Club for many years and participating in church life with the First United Methodist Church, Copperhill.
Survivors include: wife, Helen Bolton, son, William Lawrence Bolton, Jr., daughter, Margaret Anne Bolton Arp, Brother, Kenneth Brumley, grandchildren, Jennifer Manton, Patrick Arp, Phillip Bolton, Rebecca Sudduth, Bonnie Burkey, Jacob Bolton and Leah Bolton, seven great grandchildren also survive .
Funeral services: Monday, October 24, 2011 at 11:00 am at the Finch-Cochran Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David G. Anderson and Rev. Jennings Neeld officiating. Music provided by:Jerri Sue Massengale. Military Graveside Honors by North Georgia Honor Guard. Interment will follow in Barns Chapel Cemetery.
