William H Thomas Oct. 3, 1943 – Jan. 1, 2019
Bill was born in Newton, Alabama to Leo & Thelma Thomas, who moved to McCaysville, GA in 1984.
Bill's parents moved to Morrow, Ga in 1957. He was drafted into the Army in 1964, and was in the 1st Calvary deploying with them when they went to Viet Nam. The 1st Calvary's initial year in country is a record of hardship and distinguished honor. He served his 2-year obligation and received honorable discharged in 1966.
The war experience had a severely damaging impact on Bill, which he suffered from until his death. In spite of this mental handicap, Bill is remembered by many for his warm smile and caring personality. People who took the time to know him grew to love him and feel the loss by his absence.
Bill is survived by his son Kevin Byrd, daughter-in-law Rose Byrd, and grandson Kyle Byrd (Suches, GA); his brother Steve Thomas, Steve's wife Sharron (McDonough GA); nephew Sean Thomas (Redlands, CA), niece Catherine Pelham (Hampton, GA); 1 grandniece and 4 grandnephews.
