William Decatur English

William D. English, age 67 of Murphy, NC, passed away Thursday, Oct. 14, 2010 at Mission Hospital in Ashville, NC . He was born May 12, 1943 in Madison, NC the son of the late Alex Fred and Agnes Rich English he moved to Cherokee County in 1950. Mr. English was a member of Grandview Baptist Church, a valid member of the Rescue Squad, former Chief of Peachtree Fire Department, enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, gardening and farming. He had worked at Clifton for twenty one years He loved children and they loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alex and Agnes English and one sister, Joann Grant.

Survivors include: his wife of forty seven years, Geraldine Forrister English, daughters, Gail (Norman) Daniels, Becky Lynn (Roger) Wernsing; five grandchildren, Jeremy and Jenny Daniels, Jessica (Justin) Haranda, Heather Newton and Mathew Wernsing, great grandson, Justin Haranda, Jr.; one sister, Delee (Melvin) West. Also many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.


Funeral services: will be held Monday, Oct. 18, 2010 at 2:00PM from the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Lawrence English, Rev. Donald Cook and Rev. R.L. Martin officiating. Pallbearers: Trevor Grant, Jeremy Daniels, John Cavender, Oliver Minor, Clay Logan, C.W. Cavender, Darrell Martin and Ben English. Honorary pallbearers: James Hogan, Ted Hughes, Wendall Kidd, David Grant, Joe Kephart, Allen Chambers and James Dockery.
Interment will follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday evening, Oct. 17, 2010 5 till 8 PM.
