Willard Ray Hughes

Willard Ray Hughes, age 75, of Murphy, passed away Thursday evening, November 4, 2021, at Clay County Care Center. Mr. Hughes was born March 25, 1946, in Cherokee County, NC, to the late Garnett Hughes and the late Maudie McHan Hughes. He was of the Baptist Faith, loved to build things and work with his hands. He enjoyed fishing and watching the grandkids play ball. Mr. Hughes is preceded in death by Garnett & Maudie Hughes ( parents), and his sister, Barbara Ann Payne.


Mr. Hughes survivors include his son, Greg Hughes (Nancy), son, Jason Hughes, and his sister, Priscilla Hill. Grandchildren include Kelce Oliver, Evan Hughes, Robert Hughes, Raygan Hughes, and Langston Hughes. Great- Grandchildren include Karson Hughes, Jackson Oliver, and Easton Oliver.

Pallbearers include Greg Hughes, Jason Hughes, Taylor Oliver, and Evan Hughes.

Funeral services: Monday, November 8, 2021, at 2:00 pm at the Cochran Funeral Home of Murphy with Pastor Ben Pope officiating. Interment will follow in Notla Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the Cochran Funeral Home of Murphy, Monday, November 8, 2021, from 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm.
