Mr. Thomas "Wendell" German, age 84 of Mc Caysville, GA, passed away Saturday, February 14, 2009 at his daughters home in Chastworth. Wendell was born September 1, 1924 in Fannin Co. Ga. to the late Carl German and the late Edgell Pickelsimer German. He was a member of American Legion Post 0248, and had served in the US Navy during WW II. His military service story was digitally recorded and is now stored in the Library of Congress through the veterans history project. He was of the Baptist faith. Wendell was
preceded in death by wife, Tootsie; brothers, Cecil, Carl Jr., J.B., Leland, half brother, Grover Galloway; and son in law Walter Chancey.
Survivors include: daughter, Brenda Chancey of McCaysville, daughter & son-in-law, Linda & Michael Burns of Chastworth, son, Tommy German of Nolensville, TN, sisters & brothers in law, Evelyn & Slim Stewart of McCaysville, sister & brother in law, Jean & Ken Weathers of Spartanburg, SC, sister, Patsy Snow of Lithia Springs, sister & brother in law, Peggy & Rev. James Mitchell of Smyrna, grandchildren, Scott Chancey, Danette & Andy Hughes, Greg & Kristen Burns, great grandchildren, Autumn & Alex Hughes, special friend, Corene Mashburn of Blue Ridge.
Funeral services will be held Monday, February 16, 2009 at 2:00PM from the Finch-Cochran Funeral Home Chapel with the Reverend Ernest German officiating. Interment will follow in Crestlawn Cemetery with Military Honors by the North Georgia Honor Guard.
Pallbearers include, Frank Olsen, Stephen Snow, Paul Mitchell, Larry Stewart and Bob Stewart.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from Sunday, February 15, 5-8 PM.
