Wayne Junior Johnson

The Cochran Funeral Home of Murphy announces Funeral Services for Rev. Wayne Junior Johnson, age 89 of Murphy, who passed away on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at Murphy Medical Center Nursing Home.

Mr. Johnson was born in Cherokee County NC, on June 1, 1925 to the late Patton & Venner (Martin) Johnson . As a young boy, Wayne was very helpful within the community, especially to the elderly and widowed. He became known as their "little plow boy". Taking his horse and single foot plow, He would help their gardens take shape and even plant for them for just 50 cents a day. This allowed him to buy his own overalls, shirts and shoes. When Wayne had grown to be a young man, he placed his faith in God. He was a member of New Hope Church of God. Later, he received the call to preach the Gospel and was pastor of several churches over the years. He believed in raising his 7 children with discipline and keeping them involved in the church.

Wayne was blessed with a wonderful wife for 67 years. When he lost her, he lost his best friend and soul mate. Now they are rejoicing together in a Heavenly Reunion! During his stay at the Alzheimer's Unit, he would often say, " God bless your sweet soul, If I don't see you no more here on this earth, meet me in Heaven".

He will be warmly remembered by all who knew him, but especially missed by his family: daughter & son-in-law, Shirley & William Hayes; daughter, Cathy Farmer; son & daughter-in-law, Carl & Gail Johnson; daughter & son-in-law, Helen & L.C. Killian; daughter & son-in-law, Margie & Danny Moss; daughter, Evelyn Clayton; daughter & son-in-law, Pamela & John Dementry and sister, Hazel Johnson. 10 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren & 2 great-great grandchildren also share in his legacy along with a host of nieces and nephews. Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his loving wife, Minnis Bryson Johnson; and his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, July 14, 2014 from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Pastor David Watson officiating. Special music will be presented by Harold & Barb Lovingood. Interment will follow in Ogreeta Baptist Church Cemetery. The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as pallbearers: David Jones, Scott Dockery, Jeff Dockery, Will Debty, Jason O'Dell & John Dementry. Honorary Pallbearers will include Herman, Jerry & Johnny Johnson and Mickey McGrady. The family will receive friends at the Funeral Home on Sunday evening from 6-8pm.
