Wayne Henderson

Mr.Wayne W. Henderson, age 93 of Blairsville, passed away Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at his home. Mr. Henderson was born July 20, 1922 in Blairsville to the late Arthur and Inkabo Grant Henderson. Wayne was a member and deacon of Ebenezer Baptist Church. He was also a member of Dooley Lodge #367 F&AM. As a young man, Wayne worked with the Civilian Conservation Corps on various projects, including the building of the Stone Lodge at Neels Gap. More recently he was instrumental in the construction of the Day of Grace Baptist Church building. Wayne loved the outdoors...he loved to hunt and tend to his garden, and had a fruit stand on the Murphy highway. He was preceded in death by his sons, Leon and Louis Henderson; sisters, Bertha Phillips and Ruby Martin; and Brothers- Frank, Oscar and Herbert Henderson.

Wayne will be missed by everyone who knew him, but especially by his family members: loving wifeof 72 years, Zelma Plott Henderson; son, Larry (Bonnie) Henderson; sister, Pauline Young; daughter-in-law, Ginger Henderson; daughter-in-law, Betty Henderson; grandchildren: Cynthia Brock, Melissa Lee, Jeremy Henderson, Casey Henderson; great grandchildren: Dustin Smith, Jordan Lee, Michaela Caldwell, Riley Henderson, Jentry Henderson, Ivy Chambers; and one great great grandchild, Nevaeh Smith.

Funeral services have been scheduled for Sunday, December 27, 2015, at 2:00 p.m., at the Day of Grace Baptist Church, with Rev. Hoyt Brown officiating. Special music will be presented by Jeremy Henderson and Lee and Kathy Griggs, and Cynthia Brock. The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as pallbearers: J.M. Dyer, Casey Henderson, Michael Plott, Eddie Spiva, Sheldon Henderson, and Earnest Rice. The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as honorary escort to the family: Doug Merk, Roy Phillips, Dustin Smith, Jordan Lee, Tony Henderson, Lee Griggs, Greg Brock, Junior Griggs, and Jeremy Henderson. Burial will be in Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday evening, December 26, 2015, between the hours of 5 until 9 p.m.
