Mr. Wayne Edward Cook, age 72, of Blairsville passed away Saturday Morning, August 27th at Union General Hospital. Wayne was born September 19, 1938 in Clover, SC to L.N. and Virginia Brown Cook. He had lived in Union County since he was a small child. Wayne was a local Builder working mostly in Union and Fannin Counties and over the years he trained many young men in the Building Trade. He was of the Baptist Faith and was a loving husband, father and grandfather, as well as an avid NASCAR fan and loved to hunt and fish. Wayne was an honest, hardworking man who always had a smile for everyone. He was preceeded in death by his parents, L.N. and Virginia Brown Cook and a son, Stephen Cook.

Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Underwood Cook, sons and daughters-in-law, Johnny and Tammy Cook and Jackie and Selena Cook, daughter and son-in-law, Lesia and Jerry Shook, brothers and sisters-in-law, Harold and Karen Cook, Roy and Geneva Cook and Ronald and Judy Cook, sister and brother-in-law, Rose Marie and Jim Terry and sister, Laura Cook, all of Blairsville and grandchildren; Josh Cook, Whitney Cook, Chelsey Cook Megan and Taylor Shook and Allie Reid; and great grandchildren, Kristen and Cadence Cook.

Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, August 29, 2011 at 2:00 p.m.from the chapel of the Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville with Rev. Dwayne Patterson and Rev. Rex Mashburn officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 7 until 9 p.m. and Monday from 12 until 2 p.m. Interment will be in the Mt. Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.

The following gentlemen have been requested to serve as pallbearers: Billy Ellis, Marvin Hills, Rex Mashburn, Kevin Terry, Josh Cook, Wesley Cook and Jamey Shook. Honorary pallbearers will be: Bill Floyd, Joe Russell, Earl Cane, Tommy Mashburn, Loyal Botts and Vaughn Patterson.
