Wade Allen Woody

December 28, 1939 — March 22, 2014

Wade Allen Woody, son of late John Evan Woody and Nola Butts Woody passed away at age 74, in his home, on Saturday March 22, 2014.

He was born December 28, 1939 in Fannin, Georgia and after high school graduation served the U.S. Airforce for 4 years in Canada. He then returned to his Georgia mountain roots, and while residing in the Doublehead Gap community maintained a career as a truck driver experiencing many travels across the country. He initially began working for Fleet Transportation in Copperhill, TN, and ended his driving career with Eastern Cartage Inc. where he retired. During this time, he acquired the CB nickname "Mr. Woody Woodpecker". He carried this endearing title throughout the remainder of his life. His favorite activities included hosting his many friends at his home on the river, enjoying the wildlife and scenery from his porch and watching sporting events, mainly nascar.

He was survived by his 98 year old mother Nola Woody, sister and brother-in-law Carolyn and James Brown, niece Lisa Brown and grandson Austin Woody son of late adopted son Travis Howk Woody.

The funeral was on March 25, 2:00pm at Cochran's Funeral home and officiated by Reverend Tim Garrett. A tribute by close friends and a U.S. Military Airforce Service in his honor, was followed by the interment at the Brawley Family Cemetery. Pallbearers included John Carruthers, Matthew Kirby, Jeff Dockery, James "Jimmy" Brown, Jim Hill and Keith Tipton. Honorary Pallbearers were Jerry Parris, Randall Woody, Howard Woody, C.W. Woody, Clyde Woody, Carl Beavers, Randall Beavers, Phillip Baily, Bruce Tucker John Lovell, Ann Lovell, Harriett Barnes, Lisa Ballance and Susie Payne.

Wade Woody, aka "Woodpecker" was a big hearted, kind, loving son, brother and friend who's tender heart helped many along the way. Embedded in our memories of him will be his warm smile, calm demeanor and his life motto "roll with the flow". He will be dearly missed and forever loved by all who's lives he deeply touched.
