Virginia Q. Smith, 87, of Hamilton, GA died Wednesday May 7, 2008, at her home in Hamilton.
Graveside services for Mrs. Smith will be held 4: 00 PM Sunday June 15, 2008, at Crestlawn Cemetery in Copperhill, TN.
Mrs. Smith was born January 24, 1921, in Cherokee County, NC, daughter of Lula Mae and Alonzo Quinn. She graduated from Tennessee Wesleyan College and worked as an elementary school teacher before marrying and devoting herself to her family and home. Mrs. Smith was a gifted artist and an avid gardener. She also enjoyed golf, bird watching and walking. She and her family travelled extensively, including a residency in Iran and vacationed in Italy, Spain and Greece.
She was preceded in death by her husband Avary L. Smith, parents Lon and Lula Mae Quinn, grandson David Lamb and eight brothers and sisters. She is survived by one sister, Cleo Brackett of McCaysville,GA; two daughters, Rebecca Lee of Hamilton and Cynthia Chapman of Pine Mountain Valley; son-in-law of Nathan Chapman of Pine Mountain Valley; four grandchildren, Joy Chapman, Lula Mae Chapman, John Chapman and Charles Chapman; and one great-granddaughter, Serra Chapman- Lamb.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Columbus Hospice 7020 Moon Road Columbus, GA 31909.
