We are saddened to announce the passing of our dear Mother, Ginny Gurley. She lived and loved to the fullest, every one of her 96 years.
Mom was adored by our father, John Gurley, who in 2018 preceded her in death, just a few months shy of their 70th wedding anniversary.
Together, they raised three children, Terri Gurley Williams, (Nashville, TN) married to Chris; John Micheal Gurley, (St Petersburg, FL)married to Lisa; Julie Gurley Marshall, (Naples, FL) married to Nick. Two granddaughters, Christy Marshall James and Nikki Gurley Hocevar; one great granddaughter, Olivia Herman James. One grandson, Kingston Hocevar. Her favorite nieces, Susan Baldschun and Ginny Lou Weant.
Born on February 1, 1929 in Daytona Beach, Florida, to Louise and Milton Rippey (both dec) Ginny had two younger sisters, Nancy Wooten (dec) married to Ed; and Linda Dreka, married to Lon.
Throughout Mom and Dad’s long marriage there were many opportunities in both Florida and Blairsville, GA for our talented mother to use her many gifts, including President of the Peninsula Jr. Women’s Club, many gardening clubs, bible study groups, tennis groups. Mom was an adventurous and creative cook, talented with a sewing machine, needlepoint and an avid reader, while guiding her children to love Jesus, and always attend church. Mom was also a stickler for good manners.
“Bloom where you are planted” describes the last 40-plus years of Mom and Dad’s life in Blairsville, GA. Embraced by their new community and church and many friends, our fearless Mother began (later in life) a long and devoted career with Union County Community Bank, which allowed her leadership skills to blossom. Mom had a genuine passion for her involvement not only with the bank, but enjoyed her affiliation with the Union County Chamber of Commerce, as well as Mountain Networking Referral Group. Our mother also volunteered with Alive Hospice for many years.
Mom loved to gift her friends with her famous Rum Cakes, as well as cookies, she really enjoyed listening to music, and with her boundless energy for being on the go constantly, she never said no to any invitation to gather for fun times. Her longtime cherished friendships she held close in her heart, and she also treasured her many younger friends.
We are thankful to God for her life and her love, which will continue to inspire us all.
Please join us as we celebrate her life on Thursday, March 27, 2025 at 11:00, Coosa Methodist Church, with visitation with the family immediately following in the fellowship hall.
