Mr. Virgil E. DeNyke, Jr. age 84, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Friday, January 8, 2010.
Virgil was born April 27, 1925 in Danbury, CT to the late Virgil E. DeNyke, Sr. and Elizabeth Grover DeNyke. He was a WWII Navy Veteran and a member of the VFW and DAV. He was of the Methodist faith and was preceded in death by son, Douglas John DeNyke, step-mother, Fern DeNyke and step-sister, Joann Redding.
Survivors include wife, Mildred DeNyke of the home, sons, James DeNyke of Oviedo, FL, Robert DeNyke of Cortez, CO, Paul DeNyke of St. Pete, FL and Edward Henley of Cortez, CO, daughters, Sharon, McCloud of Walnut Creek, CA, Jodie Henley of Cortez, CO and Kathy Mayfield of Williamson, GA, aunt, Leona Collins of Ocala, FL, eight grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and two great great grandsons. Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 AM Thursday, January 14, 2010 from the chapel of the Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville with Rev. Tommy Jenkins officiating. Music will be provided by the Ebenezer Baptist Church Choir. Interment will be in the Ebenezer Baptist Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Charles Hemphill, Danny Hemphill, David Hemphill, Kenny Hemphill, Wade Dockery and James DeNyke. Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne Mayfield, Tony Mayfield, Jerry Fairchild, Ronnie Williams, Lee Knight and Robert DeNyke.
The family will recieve friends at the funeral home Wednesday, January 13, 2010 from 6 until 9 PM.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or United Hospice.
