Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville announces funeral services for Mrs. Violetta G. Godwin, age 83, of Blairsville, who passed away Tuesday, July 9, 2013, following a period of declining health.
Mrs. Godwin was born in Wisconsin, on February 3, 1930, a daughter of the late Lewis M. Green and the late Vesta MacFarland Green. She and her husband Maylon moved to Blairsville in 1994 from Stuart, Florida. Maylon passed away three years later. Two of her brothers, Billy K. Green and Gilbert Green, also preceded her in death. Violetta was a member of First Baptist Church of Blairsville, and had been a member of "The Way" Women's Sunday School Class there.
Mrs. Godwin leaves behind her loving family: son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Kathy Godwin, of Blairsville; grandson Mark Alan Godwin and his fiancee Andrea Peterman; and granddaughter, Kacie Nicole Godwin. Many other friends and extended family members also survive.
Funeral services for Mrs. Godwin have been scheduled for Thursday, July 11, 2013, at 2:00 p.m., at the Rock Chapel of First Baptist Church, with Rev. Danny Parris officiating. Members of "The Way" Women's Sunday School Class are asked to serve as honorary escort to the family. Burial will be in Union Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will meet with friends at the funeral home on Wednesday night, July 10, 2013, between the hours of 6 until 9 p.m.
