Verna Lea Puett

Verna Lea (Floyd) Puett passed away on  October 9, 2023, after an extended period of declining health.

Verna was born 21 of April, 1924 in the Vesta area of Cherokee County, NC, daughter of the late Thomas and Irie Floyd. Her family moved to Union County in 1938, relocating as a result of the construction creating Hiawassee Dam and reservoir. She remained in Union County all her life.

Verna was a loving sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband Paul Puett Sr, and brothers Richard, Andrew, Willard, and T.A. Floyd, Jr. 

Verna is survived by one brother Kenneth Floyd and one sister Joann Miriani, as well as four children; Carol Lynn (Ed) of Delray Beach, FL, Paul Puett Jr. (Electa) of Blairsville, GA, Ronnie Puett (Alice) of Virginia Beach, VA, Paula Hooper (Terry) of Young Harris, GA, along with seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a host of friends and relatives.

Verna will surely be missed by all who knew her. She was a devoted member of the Ivy Log Baptist Church for over 68 years, serving in numerous capacities within the church.

Funeral Services will be held at 2 pm, Friday, October 13, 2023 at the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel of Blairsville with visitation from 12-2pm. Burial will be in the Ivy Log Cemetery. 

Grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers; Steven Meyer, Matthew Puett, Terrell Hooper, Teren Hooper, Paxton Meyer, Shayne Meyer. Granddaughters will serve as honorary pallbearers; Vanessa Alderson and Terah Hooper.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
