Mr. Van Francis Davis, Jr. , age 63, of Mineral Bluff, GA, passed away Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at his residence. Mr. Davis, Jr. was born Sunday, April 8, 1945 in Cherokee County, NC to the late Van Davis, Sr. and the late Velma Hamby Davis. Van was a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church on Hardscrabble Road in Mineral Bluff, GA. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, a Sergeant, 1st Calvary, 101st Airborne Infantry. He loved hunting and fishing.

Survivors include: wife, Kay Davis of Mineral Bluff, GA, daughter & son-in-law, Crystal & Ricky Thomas, daughter & son-in-law, Gina & Robert Martin, grand-daughters, April & Andrea Thomas, Aunt, June Hamby, brother & sister-in-law, Bradley & Dorothy Davis, brother & sister-in-law, Danny & Carol Davis, niece, Sarah Davis, niece, Vivian Davis, nephew & wife, Carlton & Stephanie Davis, great nephew, Bradin Davis, many other nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members and friends.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 8, 2009 at 2:00 PM from the Henry-Cochran Funeral Home with the Reverend Bill Johnston, Reverend Doyle Davis, and Reverend Paul Adams officiating. Eulogy will be given by the Honorable Judge Harry Doss. Music will be provided by Kathy Allen. Interment will follow in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery with the National Honor Guard. Serving as pallbearers are: Carlton Davis, Roger Long, Tim Allen, Randall Davis, Jim Falls, Joey Shields, Scott Shields, and Chuck Loving. Honorary pallbearers include: Windell Davis, Wade Lovine, Ray Lovine, Calvin Stiles, Tony Hamby, Verlin Davis, John Tucker, William Mashburn, Bruce Pack, John Cochran, Marty Thomas, Ignatios Gaitanoglou, Etheridge Ware, Frank Dockery, David Causby, Don Godfrey, Marvin Mashburn, Jimmy Mashburn, Max Mashburn, Gerald Mashburn, Bobby Joe Shields, Glen Bailey, Robert K. Ballew, and Lewis Dewese .

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday, January 7, 2009 from 6-9 PM.
