Mr. Travis Vaughn, age 93, of Blairsville passed away Monday evening, June 24, 2019 in McDonough, Georgia.
Mr. Vaughn was born on November 23, 1925. The son of the late Travis Dewey Vaughn and the late Reba Mauldin Vaughn. He graduated from Lavonia High School in Lavonia, GA in June 1943. That November, at the age of seventeen, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served in the Hospital Corps. for 3 years.
He began his career in education in 1950 as a teacher and coach. He later moved to administration and held a position of Junior High School Principal for 26 years. He graduated from Piedmont College with a BS Degree. Later, He graduated from Peabody College with a Masters Degree and Georgia State University with an Education Specialist Degree. He completed additional studies at the University of Georgia and at Auburn University.
Mr. Vaughn was formerly a member of Jonesboro First Baptist Church for 40 years where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, and Usher. He and his wife moved to Blairsville in 2006 and belonged to First Baptist Church of Blairsville.
Memorial Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 1, 2019 at First Baptist Church of Blairsville with Pastor Fred Lodge officiating. Military Honors will be presented by the North Georgia Honor Guard. Inurnment services will follow at 2:30 pm, July 1, 2019 in Comer Cemetery where he will be laid to rest next to his wife in Comer, Georgia.
The family will gather with friends on Monday from 9:00 am until the service begins.
