Tommye Jo Hackney Daves, age 88, of Epworth, Georgia departed this world in the morning hours of November 9, 2024.
She was born on April 26, 1936 to the late Donald March Hackney and Jewell Marie Stephens Hackney in Fannin County Georgia.
She was preceded in death her parents; husband, Frank Daves; daughter, Shawna Dee Daves; brothers, Billy Hackney and Steve Hackney and sister, Mary Lou Hackney.
She was a long time Christian and member of First Baptist Church, Epworth, Georgia where she served her Lord in many capacities throughout the years. She was always committed to reaching out to needs in her community and a strong supporter of local sports teams. Tommye Jo was a strong spirit filled person with a feisty character. A generous, kind, and giving spirit motivated her along with a keen intellect. Tommye Jo had a strong work ethic, whether in her career or at home. Tommye Jo looked forward each year for the arrival of her purple martins preparing for their arrival, enjoying their presence, and preparing for their departure. She was a true gardener, one that enjoyed working the soil, watching God's created gift of plant life begin to grow and reaping the fruits of her labor to share with her family and community. A true seamstress, she spent countless hours dedicated to the prayer quilting and blanket ministry at First Baptist Church Epworth. An accomplished fisherman, she spent many hours with family and friends in God's created nature on her boat. Tommye Jo Daves was a woman truly devoted to family and her community, motivated by her love for them. Lastly, but far from least, she loved Riley her bow-wow companion.
She is survived by her daughters; Donna (Johnny) Farmer and Elizabeth "Beth" (Glenn) Watson; sister, Ann Williams; grandchildren, Jonathan Franklin (Lindsey) Farmer, Jordan Thomas (Brianna) Farmer, Kelsey Jolynn Greene and Alyssa Claire Greene; great grandchildren, Neyland Farmer, Deacon Farmer, Deana Jo Farmer and Navy Grace Farmer; sister in law, Ramona Hackney; a host of nieces and nephews, and many, many children that grew up around her that fondly refer to her to this day as Momma Jo. A multitude of friends also survive.
Funeral services are scheduled to be conducted on Wednesday, November 13, 2024 at 2:00 pm from the First Baptist Church of Epworth, Georgia with Dr. Phil Byler and Dr. Tom Jordan officiating. Music will be provided by Rev. Doug Simonds, Alyssa Greene, Vernon Owenby, Becky Harris and Alice Griggs.
The family will be receiving friends in a time of visitation on Wednesday November 13, 2024 from 12 noon until the 2:00 pm funeral service hour at First Baptist Church, Epworth, Georgia.
Interment will be in the First Baptist Church Cemetery in Epworth, Georgia following the service.
The following gentlemen will be serving as pallbearers: Mike Ballew, Bill Turpin, Buford Ramey, B.J. Taylor, Lee Harris and Elijah Ballew.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of Tommye Jo to the First Baptist Church Epworth Quilting and Blanket Ministry.
