Tommy McGaha

May 29, 1960 — December 8, 2016

Tommy Earl McGaha, 56, of Hiawassee, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, December 8, 2016.

Tommy was born in Young Harris, Georgia, on May 29, 1960, a son of the late Earl Frank McGaha and the late Inez Beavers McGaha. He was a lifelong resident of this area and was a member of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church in Blairsville. Tommy was a loving person - he loved his family and Avita friends and staff and he loved his friends and neighbors. Tommy always made you feel welcome, and he never cared much for material things. He often would say that he had rather have friends and loved ones than all the money in the world. He loved fishing, camping, and watching Atlanta Braves baseball, always wanting them to win and he went to several of the ballgames. But most of all, he loved going to church and he loved his Lord dearly. Tommy's smile and laughter will remain in his family's hearts forever, and he will be missed so much by all his family and friends.

Family members include brothers and sisters-in-law, Jerry and Sharon McGaha; Keith and Doris McGaha; sisters and brothers-in-law: Jennie and Gary Hooper; Betty and Rickie Berry; and Barbara and Sid Garrett. Several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, December 10, 2016, at 11:00 a.m., to be held in the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Hiawassee, with Rev. Chris Rumfelt and Rev. Chris Matheson officiating. Special music will be presented by Chris Rumfelt and Family. The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as pallbearers: Roy Matheson, Gary Hooper, Austin Pattee, Jessie McGaha, Sid Garrett, and Shawn Gillespie. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will meet with friends at Cochran Funeral Home in Hiawassee on Friday evening, December 9, 2016, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
