Cochran Funeral Home and Crematory of Blairsville announces funeral services for Thomas, better known as "Tommy", Lynwood Dowdy, age 70, of Mineral Bluff, Georgia, who passed away on Thursday, September 12th, 2019 in Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta.
Tommy had lived in the Blairsville area for the past 45 plus years where he was a florist and had worked in flower shops for many years. He was a member and organist at Gospel Light Baptist Church in Blue Ridge, and was on the Board of Directors for the "Empty Stocking Fund" a benevolent organization in Blue Ridge. Thomas had been preceded in death by his parents, Lynwood Reed Dowdy and Ann Ritchie Dowdy.
Tommy is survived by his many friends and family: best friend, Robert Buchanan, of Mineral Bluff; sister, Evelyn Bowling, of Florida; niece, Heather; and numerous cousins.
Funeral services have been scheduled for Sunday, September 15th, 2019, to be held at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville. Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 14th, between the hours of 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The following gentlemen have been requested to serve as pallbearers: Brian Bell, Nathan Hughes, Justin Kennedy, Taylor Kennedy, David Baldwin, and James Allen. Requested to serve as honorary escort are: Board members of Empty Stocking Fund, Jim Harris, Buck Cardinal, Johnny Cannon, and Randy Haines. Burial will be in Union Memory Gardens Cemetery.
