Rev. Barney was born March 29, 1928 in Cumberland County, New Jersey, to the lateThomas Loren Klett Barney and Samantha DeGarmo Barney. He was a Methodist Minister, and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Rev. Barney was an avid fisherman and enjoyed amateur photography. His most recent ministry was at Mt. Zion Methodist Church in Alto, Georgia.
