Mr. Thomas Franklin Long, age 75, of Ellijay, Georgia, passed away Saturday, November 24, 2007 at Northside Cherokee Hospital in Canton, GA. Tom was born Friday, July 15, 1932 in Cumberland, Maryland to the late Charles and Florence Stickney Long. He was a member of the Cherry Log Christian Church, (Disciples of Christ), he served in the U.S. 1st Marine Division as a Medic during the Korean War, 1950-53. He loved playing golf, Civil War history, and enjoyed landscaping.Tom did volunteer work with the Gilmer County Food Pantry and had retired as a vocational instructor at Warm Springs, GA.
Survivors include: wife, Judy Long, son & daughter-in-law, Robert Michael & Romona Long of Hickery, NC, son, Philip Charles & Kathy Long of Swansea, SC, sister and brother-in-law, Betty Jean and Bill Parker of Romney, West VA, sister-in-law, Barbara K. Long of Warm Springs, GA, and nieces also survive.
Memorial services will be held December 7, 2007 at 11:00 A.M.from the Cherry Log Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) with Dr Fred Craddock officiating.. Music will be provided by Earline Crooke, and Richard Lumpkin. Interment will follow in the family plot at the Indian Mound Cemetery in Romney, West VA.
