Thomas "Lynn" Chandley

June 9, 1941 — December 27, 2024

Thomas "Lynn" Chandley, 83, of Blairsville, GA passed away on December 27, 2024, surrounded by family. Lynn was born June 9, 1941, in Akron, OH to Kendall and Mrytle Chandley. he attended Indiana University and Ohio State University.

Mr. Chandley was a compassionate husband, father, and papaw whose kind soul and endless patience endeared him to all. He loved to make people laugh and his joy of sharing a quick joke brightened the day of all he met.

His favorite pastime was boating which he enjoyed sharing with family and friends throughout his life. He spent many days on the water at Rocky Fork Lake in Ohio and Lake Martin in Alabama and taught many to water ski over the years. He loved fireworks. He had an endless sweet tooth and loved ice cream.

Lynn was a gifted, professional violinist. He began playing at age 10 and received multiple accolades for his talent through the years. he was the second chair violinist with the Dayton, OH, Symphony, and the concertmaster for both the Albany, GA, and Columbus, GA, symphonies. During his musical career, he accompanied performers such as Liberace, Bob Hope, Phylis Diller, and countless others. 

He also had a career in manufacturing and the financial sector. He held leadership roles at Dayton Tire and Rubber in Dayton, OH, for 18 years, Miller Brewing in Albany, GA, for 5 years, and Total System Services in Columbus, GA for 24 years where he retired.

He served on the Board of Directors for the National Postal Policy Council in Washington, DC, and the Columbus, GA, area Postal Customer Council as an industry co-chair representing Total System Services.

Lynn was also a charter member and vice president of the Youth Orchestra of Greater Columbus, GA for a number of years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother- Roland Chandley and wife Gladys; brother-in-law- Richard Sloan; and grandson Cole Dasinger.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Rita Blatt Chandley; his daughter Lisa Chandley Dasinger and husband Shane of Blairsville, GA; Grandson-Dustin Dasinger and wife Taylor of Florence, CO; and 2 great-grandsons- Everett and Thatcher Dasinger. Extended family includes his sister-in-law-Bonnie Lauer and husband Vernon of Seabrook, TX; sister-in-law- Jerrie Sloan of Dayton, OH; Brother-in-law- Greg Blatt and wife Melody of Xenia, OH. Nieces- Vicki Chandley Boultinghouse and husband Dudley of Cold Stream, TX, and Kathy Chandley Sloan of Oakley, CA; as well as many additional cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 18th, 2025, at 1:00pm at Cochran|McDaniel Funeral Home of Blairsville with Dr. Tom Jordan Officiating.

The family will recieve friends on Saturday, January 18th, 2025, at Cochran|McDaniel Funeral Home of Blairsville from 12:00 - 1:00pm.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association in honor of Lynn.
