Talmadge Roosevelt "Peter" Johnson

Mr. Talmadge "Pete" Johnson, age 76 of Murphy, NC, passed away Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at Union General Hospital after a long and courageous fight with cancer.

Pete was born in Cherokee, NC to the late Martell and Stella (Arp) Johnson. He live and worked in Akron, Ohio for many years, and moved back here in 1993 after retiring with many years service with Metro Transportation in Akron. Pete was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptsist Church. He was preceded in death by a son, Edward Johnson.

Pete is survived by his wife, Bonnie L. Johnson of the home, daughters, Tina Hunt of Woster, Ohio, Sally Edwards of Akron, Ohio, and Rhonda Webb of Akron, Ohio, sons, William Johnson and Michael Johnson both of Akron, Ohio, sisters, Fostine Johnson, Louise Treipinger and Jerlene Payton all of Akron, Ohio and Eanestine Thorton of Barberton, Ohio; brother Buford Johnson of Morganton, GA, eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Pete will be held Friday, October 15, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Karnes, Rev. Raymond Shields and Rev. Jerry Morrow officiating. Music will be provided by Mt. Pleasant Youth Choir and Fred Webb. Interment will follow in the Ledford Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tripp Beaver, Scott Harris, Mike Pinkerton, Johnny Burrell, David Burrell and Michael Paul Ledford. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Forrister, James Allison, Jack Elrod, Earl Ware, Kenneth Dockery and J.C. Graham.

The Family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday evening from 6 until 9 p.m.
