Sybil Upshaw, age 74, of Young Harris, Georgia, passed away Monday, December 14, 2009 at her home.
Mrs. Upshaw was born on February 23, 1935 in Anderson County, Texas, to the late Martin Earl and Thelma Lorene Pierce Newton. Sybil Upshaw was an amazing person. Through many hardships in her life, she never lost her ability to bring sunshine to everyone who crossed her path. After raising her four children in Texas, she married Jerry Upshaw and moved around the country, finally settling in Georgia in 1998. She and Jerry are loved members of the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church of Hayesville, North Carolina.
Since moving to Georgia, Sybil took up carving and had become a talented artist. Through patience, she created many gorgeous pieces. Even though they were worth a lot of money, she made them with love and gave them away with love.
Sybil was preceded in death her parents, Martin Earl and Thelma Lorene Pierce Newton; by a sister, Mabel Wynell Melton; two sons: Bob Beaver and Thomas Clay "Dooley" Beaver.
Survivors include: her husband, Jerry Upshaw of Young Harris; daughter, Cheryl Lynn Beaver of Huntsville, Texas; son, Gregory Wayne Beaver of Austin, Texas; and Brothers, Melvin Wayne Newton of Houston, Texas and Thomas Earl Newton of Josephine, Texas. Several grandchildren and many other relatives and friends also survive.
No local services will be held; burial will be in the Liberty Cemetery in Anderson County, Texas.
