Swinson Murphy

Mr. Swinson Murphy, age 80 passed away April 24, 2011 at his home in Murphy. Swinson was born September 29, 1930 in Unaka, NC to the late Fred Murphy and Dora Allen Murphy. He was a member of New Martin's Creek Baptist Church and retired from the North Carolina Forest Service in 1995 after many years of service. He also served his country in the US Army during the Korean conflict. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Arvil Murphy.

Survivors include wife, Juanita Murphy, son & daughter-in-law, Lonnie & Dona Murphy, daughter & son-in-law, Debbie (Murphy) & Jeff Gibby, brother, Wallace Murphy, four sisters, Desma Chastain, Reba Fowler, Loretta Heard, & Carmen Worley, five grandchildren, Brodie Murphy, Braley Murphy, Scott Roper, Kevin Roper, & Jeff Gibby, Jr., one great-grandchild, Mariah Ray Gibby, also many nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will take place 8:00 pm Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at the New Martin's Creek Baptist Church with Reverends Hoyt Brown, Aud Brown and Calvin Murphy officiating. Interment will be 11:00 am, Wednesday, April 27, 2011 in the church cemetery with Reverend Paul Ray Morgan officiating. The gentlemen serving as
Pallbearers include Henry Wilson, Terry Dickey, Alan Mauney, Gary Mease, Bob May and Loyd Beavers. Honorary pallbearers are Arnold Crisp and Chad Cook.

The family will receive friends from 5-8 pm at the church Tuesday night. The Cochran Funeral Home of Murphy, NC is in charge of arrangements. You may send condolences to the family and sign the guest register at www.cochranfuneralhomes.com.
