Mr. Steven Bedford Jeffress, age 80 of Blue Ridge, GA passed away at his home May 26, 2014. Mr. Jeffress was born December 26, 1933 in Goldsboro, NC to the late Ernest Judson Jeffress and the late Elizabeth Kersey Jeffress. He was preceded in death by brother, Earnest Judson Jeffress and sister, Sara Elizabeth Andrews.
Survivors include wife of 54 years, Carole A. Gilson Jeffress, son and daughter-in-law, Sam and Francine Jeffress, daughter and son-in-law, Dana and Tommy Newberry, daughter and son-in-law, Lynn and Ron Carlson, sister, Evelyn Jeffress Stith, and granddaughters, Danielle Jeffress, and Heather Carlson.
In his early years he was active in Boy Scouts and attained the rank of Eagle Scout with Bronze and Silver Palms and organizer award. He was also a member of the order of the arrow.
Mr. Jeffress served in the US Air Force from 1953-1957. In August 1957 he was employed with the Civil Aeronautics Administration, later becoming the Federal Aviation Administration where he served for 35 years and retired as an Air Traffic Supervisor with last duty at the Miami Air Route Traffic Control Center.
In retirement he enjoyed the love of his family, traveling, and outdoor activities. In Miami, he served as a co-worker of the Blessed Mother Teresa Order of the Missionaries of Charity.
The family received friends at the Henry-Cochran Funeral Home on Friday, May 30, 2014 from 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm. A funeral Mass was held Saturday, May 31, 2014 at 11:00 am at the St. Anthony Catholic Church with Father George Kloster officiating. Music was provided by Ruth McCart. Interment followed in the McCaysville Church of Christ Cemetery with military honors presented by the North Georgia Honor Guard. Pallbearers included Ron Carlson, Tommy Newberry, Thomas Browne and Steve Lewis. Honorary pallbearers were Glen O'Neill, Jim Moore, Bob Stignani, Ralph Stanley, and Walter Graham.
