Cochran Funeral Home and Crematory of Blairsville announces funeral services for Mr. Steve Burns, age 59, of Blairsville, who passed away Monday, June 5, 2017 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.
Steve was born in Marietta, Georgia and had lived in Blairsville for all of his life. He was a wonderful husband and father, and loved being with his family. Steve enjoyed fishing and traveling. He loved people and touched many lives, and enjoyed being with his many friends. A hard worker, he was loyal and dedicated, and was a supervisor at Pike Electric. Steve had a great sense of humor and was a killer canasta player. Steve was a member of Sharp Memorial United Methodist Church in Young Harris. His mother, Betty Jean Little Burns, preceded him in death.
Steve leaves behind a loving family: wife, Angelia Adams Burns, of Blairsville; his father, James Burns, of Blairsville; son, Kalem Charles Burns and his fiancee, Erika Marie Scott, both of Blairsville; sister and brother-in-law, Debbie and Ronnie Owenby, of Blairsville; brother and sister-in-law, Tim and Myra Burns, of Oakwood, Georgia; nieces: Briana (Jason) Burruss, of Oakwood; Hollie Owenby, of Blairsville; Lori (Chris) Sammons, of Statesboro; and great nephew, Logan Sammons, of Statesboro.
Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, June 10, 2017, at 2:00 p.m., to be held in the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville, with Rev. Dr. John Kay and Rev. Ronny Crisp officiating. Special music was presented by Judith Lee, accompanied by Angela Holloway. The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as pallbearers: Jim McCloud, Ronnie Shoemake, Brandon Chapman, Bruce Johnson, Brad Whitfield, Chris Atkinson, Tony Robinson, and Kalem Burns. Pike Electric Employees are asked to serve as honorary escort to the family. Burial will be in Ivy Log Cemetery. The family will meet with friends on Saturday at Cochran Funeral Home, starting at 12 noon, and will last until the services start at 2:00 p.m. Flowers are being accepted; however, if you wish, memorial donations may be made to Winship Cancer Institute at Emory University or to The Gideons International.
