Stephen Souder Sloan

Stephen Sounder Sloan was born on December 7, 1939 in Philadelphia, PA to Gurney P. Sloan and Clara Augusta Souder Sloan. On June 29, 2019, Stephen died peacefully in his sleep after a long battle with cancer.

He moved to Florida with his parents in 1950. After his schooling and tours with both the U.S. Coast Guard and the U.S. Army, Mr. Sloan had a variety of careers: ICC of Celatex with Jim Walter; Vice President of Second National Bank in Tampa; President of Sun Bank in Lakeland; Clastiques Car Restoration (winning 15 national awards with Mustangs); and a Million Dollar Club Realtor. He also found time to work with the American Cancer Society serving as President of ACS Polk Co./ Lakeland, started the first Man to Man Group, and chaired the First Prostate Forum at Disney World in Orlando. In 1998, the physicians at Watson Clinic voted Stephen the Abraham Flexnor Award for his service with cancer patients.

Upon moving to Young Harris in 1999 he became a restorer, builder, and performer with regards to his love for music as a Musical Adventurer. He was part of the Songtellers and while working with Reach of Song became the official "God Bless America" singer after the 9/11 crisis. Stephen also started another Man to Man Group serving five counties.

He is survived by his wife, Rosy; and his son from a previous marriage Stephen along with his family; and his daughter, Tracy along with her family. Donations, if desired, may go to Regency Hospice.
