Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville announces funeral services for Mr. S.R. "Buster" Abercrombie, age 82, of Blairsville, who passed away Thursday, October 9, 2014 in Union General Hospital in Blairsville.
Mr. Abercrombie was born in Morganton, Georgia, on February 5, 1932, a son of the late Spurlin Abercrombie and the late Faye Cox Abercrombie. Mr. Abercrombie moved to Marietta, Georgia, where he worked for Lockheed Corporation for 36 years and 3 months. He and his wife moved back to the north Georgia area in 1986. He was a member and trustee of Harmony Grove Baptist Church, and sang in the choir there until he was 80 years old.
Buster is survived by his wife of 53 years, Laurene "Toots" Abercrombie, of Blairsville; brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Nancy Abercrombie, of Blairsville; nieces and nephews: Holly Rhodes, Shannon Anderson, Ricky Abercrombie, Mitzi Gasaway, Tammy McClure, Teresa Wetzel, and Randy Legg; many great nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive.
Funeral services have been scheduled for Saturday, October 11, 2014, at 2:00 p.m., to be held in the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville. The following gentlemen have been requested to serve as pallbearers: Brian Mashburn, Wayne Tanner, Kurt Wetzel, Steve Colwell, Alan Young, and Ricky Tanner. The following gentlemen have been requested to serve as honorary escort to the family: Joel Smith, David Hatcher, Bobby Jackson, Junior Bridges, Lonnie Wright, Denny Tanner, Randy Legg, Hubert Legg, and J.L. Tanner. Burial will be in Union Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will be meeting with friends at Cochran Funeral Home on Friday evening, October 10, 2014, between the hours of 6 until 9 p.m.
