Mr. Silvie D.Crawford, age 91 of Morganton, passed away Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013 at Fannin Regional Hospital following a brief illness. He was born July 30, 1921 in Fannin County to the late Rufus and Georgia Cruse Crawford. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church. Silvie proudly served 3 yrs. in the US Army during WWII in Italy and N. Africa. Upon his return, he married his sweetheart, FLora Atkins, on December 19, 1945. Silvie and Flora were happily married 67 years- his proudest accomplishment.
Silvie retired from the Savannah River Plant in New Ellenton, SC and returned home to Morganton on 1980 where he remained an avid gardener until his late 80's. Silvie's greatest joy was spending time with his wife, their children, their grandchildren, and their extended family. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by 6 brothers and 3 sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Flora Atkins Crawford, son & daughter in law David & Lisa Crawford of Morganton; daughter & son in law Margaret & Keith Ferguson of Morganton; grandson John (Kerry) Crawford of Marietta; grandson Jason Crawford of Holly Springs; granddaughter Jessica Paris of Blairsville; granddaughter Olivia Crawford of Morganton; step-grandson Jason (Amanda) Osgatharp of Chatsworth; step-granddaughter Jessica (Bill) Ganus of Memphis; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services were held on Friday, February 15 in the Henry-Cochran Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Michael Morton officiating. Music was provided by Debbie Cochran, Stacy Gilreath, and Lucie McKinney.
Interment followed in Hemptown Cemetery. Honor Guard detail was provided by the North Georgia Honor Guard. Pallbearers included John Crawford, Jason Crawford, Seth Crawford, Billy Nichols, Keith Ferguson, and Russell Moore. Honorary pallbearers included Jason Osgatharp, Benny Crawford, Howell Bruce, Howie Bruce, Kevin Bruce, Scott Moore, Vic Smith, Steve Atkins, Tim Taylor, William Pertet, William Mubanda, and Kirk Baker.
