Shirley Newsome Summey

Shirley Newsome Summey, 87, of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Sunday, October 22, 2023, at Blue Ridge Assisted Living in Blue Ridge, GA. Shirley was born January 23, 1936, in Miami, FL to the late John and late Runette Wages. She is preceded in death by her first husband, George Edward Newsome as well as her second husband, James L. Summey.  She is survived by her daughter Deborah (Edward) Adams; daughter Sharon Jordan; granddaughter Angela Puleo; granddaughter Andrea (Thomas) Skipworth; great-grandchild Silas Puleo; great-grandchild Grant Puleo; great-grandchild Harper Hoppenworth; great-grandchild Emerson Hoppenworth; sister Carolyn Farmer and several nieces and nephews.

Shirley worked many years at Dekalb Medical Center.  She was fiercely independent and took pride in caring for others, especially her family. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and friend.  Everyone who knew her, described her as classy and gracious.  In her spare time, she enjoyed watching war movies and spending time with family.

Graveside Services are scheduled for Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Union Memory Gardens with Rev. Matthew McDaniel officiating. A Celebration of Service is scheduled for January 20th, 2024 in the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville.

In Lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Heart Association or the Alzheimer's Society in memory of Shirley.
