Sherry Ann Noelle Wilcox, age 45, of Mineral Bluff, Georgia was deceased July 31, 2010, at Piedmont Medical Center in Atlanta, Georgia. She was a lifelong resident of Fannin County, and a member of the McCaysville Church of Christ.
Sherry was a 1983 honor graduate of Fannin County High School and a 1983 Magna Cum Laude graduate of Pickens Area Vocational Nursing School. After practicing nursing and co-owning with Ricky a number of businesses, she returned to school to become a teacher. She graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2000 from Kennesaw State University, having been awarded the Teacher's Promise Scholarship, inducted into the Golden Key National Honor Society and Kappa Delta Pi Education Honor Society. After teaching 6th & 7th grades in Gilmer County, she became the Regional Workforce Resident Coordinator for the State of Georgia, and served as a member of the Governor's Council on Disability and was a national spokesperson for the Melanie Bloom DVT Foundation.
Sherry and Ricky, her husband of 28 years, both life long residents of Fannin County, shared a love for travel, photography and their pets. They especially enjoyed spending time at their home in Maine.
Sherry was an organ donor, enabling two kidney recipients to begin a new life on August 1, 2010.
Survivors include her husband, Ricky Wilcox, of the home; parents, Joanne & William Cole of Epworth, Larry & Sherry Kincaid of Blue Ridge, mother & father in law, Edward & Mildred Wilcox of Mineral Bluff, sister & brother in law, Lynda & Tommy Cole of Blue Ridge, 1 Uncle, Joe Beavers of Kentucky, 3 godchildren; Kristen, Mathew & Nicholas Arp of Epworth, several cousins & a multitude of friends.
Sherry is predeceased by two daughter, Laura & Lydia; grandparents, Pearl & Joe Beavers of Epworth, Pauline Wood of Blue Ridge; aunt & uncle, Gail & Ronnie Kincaid of Jasper.
The family requests in lieu of flowers donations be made in honor of Sherry to the Humane Society of Blue Ridge, P.O. Box 2126, Blue Ridge, Georgia 30513.
Memorial Services for Sherry will be held on Sunday, August 8, 2010 at 2:00pm from the Henry Cochran Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bill Johnston & Rev. Terry Stuart officiating with a Eulogy given by Robbie Colwell Weaver.
