Mrs. Welch taught 4th-grade mathematics in the Fannin County School system for 34 years, beginning her career at Mobile Elementary before moving to McCaysville Elementary and ending her career at West Fannin Elementary. She was an impactful teacher who loved her students, and, in turn, they loved her. She made long-lasting friendships with many of her fellow teachers, and the one thing they all had in common was the love and passion for their students and setting them up for success in whatever career endeavor they wanted to pursue. She inspired many of her students to become teachers themselves, which will continue her legacy for generations to come.
Mrs. Welch was passionate about her family, church, friends, and the hundreds of students she taught throughout her career, and she was always a catalyst for bringing people together to celebrate special events and holidays. She was an incredible hostess and chef extraordinaire who frequently whipped up feasts fit for royalty. She loved to travel both domestically and internationally with her family and friends to absorb the experiences the world had to offer. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of McCaysville, GA/Copperhill, TN from childhood to the time of her passing. The love she had for her church and church family was exhibited through the many activities she participated in, including teaching Sunday School for over 60 years, Women on Missions, Youth Training Union, and serving on a pastoral search committee. Her Savior surely welcomed her with the words, “well done, my good and faithful servant”.
