The Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville announces Funeral Services for Mrs. Selma Irene Jones Bradley; age 86, native and lifelong resident of Blairsville, who passed away peacefully on Friday morning, June 16, 2017 at Stonehenge Senior Living in Blairsville.
Selma was born on November 16, 1930 in Blairsville, Georgia, a daughter of the late Robert T. and Gertrude Jones. She graduated from Union County High School on May 8, 1949 as Valedictorian of her class and married Guy Bradley, her loving husband of 68 years on May 11, 1949. She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church. She was clerk for Selective Service Draft Board from 1960-1973. She was employed by Farmer's Home Administration from 1974-1990. Selma's passion in life was living life for the Lord, her family, and friends. She was loved by and was highly influential to family members and many friends. Selma enjoyed traveling, having traveled to 49 of 50 states, reading, sewing, quilting, cooking for her family, gardening, canning and freezing fruits and vegetables along with her soulmate, Guy. Loyalty to Guy was paramount in her life. She exemplified what a godly marriage partner and also church pastor's wife should be. Guy said he held her in his hands for sixty-eight years, but says she is in better hands now.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers: Robert Fred, William B., and James R. Jones.
Family members left to treasure her memories are her husband, Rev. Guy Bradley of Blairsville, Ga., two sons and daughters-in law, David and Nancy Bradley of Statham, Ga., Harrison and Candy Bradley of Blairsville, and one daughter and son-in-law, Kathie and Lewis McAfee of Blairsville, Ga. She leaves behind six grandchildren and their spouses who loved her dearly: Melanie and Eric Zufall, James and Kacie Bradley, Angela and Matt Haun, Stephen and Jean Bradley, Alison and Taylor Willingham, and Brad McAfee. Twelve great grandchildren will cherish fond memories of their "Mamaw"; Sandra, Reuben, and Lucy Zufall, Trey, Denver, Gabe, and Daniel Bradley, Chandler and Henry Haun, Abigail and Kaitlin Willingham, and Liza Bradley. Two loving sisters, Ruby Bradley of Charlotte, NC and Ruth Medford of Harrisburg, NC, survive Selma. Surviving is one precious brother-in-law, Deral Bradley of Sylva, NC. Many dear friends and relatives also survive.
The family will receive friends at Cochran Funeral Home on Sunday evening, June 25, 2017 between 4:00 and 6:00 PM. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 26, 2017, 11:00 a.m. at Liberty Baptist Church with Selma's son, Harrison Bradley and grandson, James Bradley officiating. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Lewis McAfee, Brad McAfee, James Bradley, Stephen Bradley, Matt Haun, and Taylor Willingham. Melissa Collins and Leslie Hughes, accompanied by Michelle Rowe, will provide special music.
The family wishes to thank both Dr. Tom Karisny and Dr. John Kelley, along with their caring office staff; Union General Hospital and staff; Appalachian Home Health Care; Jenny Carroll and the amazing, compassionate, and skilled staff at Stonehenge Senior Living; along with the wonderful and caring folks from Homestead Hospice for the love and professional care provided to Selma throughout her illness. Many people along her journey were involved in her health care and the family thanks and expresses appreciation to everyone.
