Sara Ellen Daves

July 23, 1940 — June 24, 2024

Sara "Ellen" Daves, 83, of Ooltewah, TN, went to be with the Lord on June 24, 2024. She was born July 23, 1940, in Canon, GA, to the late Wingo and Frances Floyd. She was preceded in death by her husband Jack Daves, brothers-in-law Tom Daves, Johnny Dockery, and James Woody.

Ellen loved the Lord, her husband Jack of 63 years, their children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren dearly.

She is survived by son Scott (Paula) Daves, daughter Michelle (J.D.) Nicholas, and son Kevin (Jada) Daves. Grandchildren Brittany (Peyton) Horne, Elijah (Hannah) Daves, Jordan (Allie) Clark, Nehemiah Daves, Jared (Amber) Nicholas, Josiah (Hayli) Daves, Shayli Daves, Sharayah Daves, Shanel Daves, Shaw Daves, and Shafer Daves. Great grandchildren, Ezra Clark, Isaiah Clark, Aryanna Daves, Lydia Daves, Ryker Daves, Vincent, Reed, Knox Horne, and Ada Clark. In addition, her brother Dan (Sylvia) Floyd, sister Becky Dockery, and brother Ronnie (Kathy) Floyd, her sister-in-law Mary Joe Woody, brother-in-law Jerry (Gail) Daves, and sister-in-law Anne Daves.

She attended the University of Georgia in which she received a B.S. Degree in Education. She had a successful career in elementary education for 30+ years. She had a true passion for teaching and loved her students.

Ellen was a member of Brainerd Hills Baptist Church in Chattanooga, TN.

Ellen loved playing the piano at church and at home with the family singing favorite hymns and Christmas songs. She had Alzheimer's for a decade, but her love for Jesus still shone through even to the end. She felt our love and you could see it on her face and in the moments, we heard her say "I love you" back.

On the weekends, you could find her shopping in stores and sneaking Reese's cups when Jack was not watching. She would talk about her life growing up on the farm and picking cotton. Ellen always had a smile when she would walk in the room. Jack was always by her side sitting in their recliners holding hands through the many years of caregiving for Ellen.

These verses speak to her impact on everyone's lives. Psalm 121:1-2 "I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth." Proverbs 31:28-31 "Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all. Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her works praise her in the gates."
