Mrs. Sara Bell Clay Capes, age 90, of Young Harris, Georgia, passed away Sunday January 24, 2016 at her home surrounded by family.
Mrs. Capes was born September 1, 1925 in Walton County, Georgia, to the late Coleman and the late Louise Hyatt Clay. Sara had been living in the Young Harris area since 1977, when she moved from Decatur, Georgia. Sara was an excellent gardener, with an especially green thumb. Her vegetables and flowers outgrew everyone else's attempts! She was preceded in death by husband Harry A. Capes; son Donald D. Capes; grandson, Donnie R. Davis; and son-in-law, Billy D. Wages; brothers Ralph Clay, Kenny Clay and sister Rebecca Clay.
Surviving family members include daughters and son-in-laws, Faye and Doug Rhodes of Elberton, Georgia; Sonya and Don Davis, of Jasper, Georgia; Cherrie Wages and Jackie Capes of Young Harris, Georgia; Sons and daughter-in-law, Ronald G. and Ann Capes of Opelika, Alabama; and Jack Capes of Young Harris; brothers and sisters-in-laws: Bill and Runelle Clay of Loganville, Georgia; Jerry and Sybil Clay of Oxford, Georgia, and Mickey Clay of Monroe, Georgia; sisters are Frances Jones and Diane and Kenneth McCart, all of Monroe, Georgia.
Funeral services for Mrs. Capes will be held Wednesday, January 27, 2016, at 2:00 p.m., from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Hiawassee, with Sean Capes officiating. The following gentlemen will be serving as pallbearers: Alan Davis, Ronald Capes, Jr., Sean Capes, Kevin Brown, Jarrod Capes, and Doug Rhodes. Burial will be in Laurel Hills Memory Gardens where she will be laid to rest next to her husband, Harry. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 26, 2016, at Cochran Funeral Home in Hiawassee, between the hours of 1 until 9 p.m.
