Cochran Funeral Home and Crematory of Blairsville announces the death of
Sandra (Sandy) Louise McSpadden, age 81, who passed away in Marietta Georgia on December 11, 2019, after a brief illness. Sandy was the daughter of Juanita Coon and Glenn Beardsley, and the adopted daughter of Ruth and J. Hollis Harmon. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Richard Harmon and Glenn (Bud) Beardsley. She is survived by her husband, C. Wayne McSpadden; son, Christopher (Pamela) McSpadden; daughters, Leslie (Stephen) Schmidt and Denise (David) Bissonnette; sisters, Margaret (Peg) Graham, Kathleen (Kathy) Offut, and Patricia (Patty) Urick; brother, Thomas (Tom) Coon; grandchildren, Garland Louise Schmidt and Matthew Bissonnette. Sandy was born, April 7th, 1938 in Ashtabula, Ohio. As a young woman, she played the piano and sang in her school and church choirs. While on a church outing, Wayne McSpadden offered her a stick of gum; this led to their marriage a year later. After living in St. Louis, Missouri, she and her family moved to Ft. Myers, Florida. Sandy worked as a manager at Maas Bros. department store. In retirement, she researched her family history and left behind a vast amount of information; a legacy for her family. After Wayne retired, they moved to Blairsville, Georgia to enjoy the mountains. Sandy's favorite activities included watching the deer from her window, reading, keeping up with politics, traveling throughout the U.S; especially historical locations and places of natural beauty, antiquing, listening to Josh Groban, and visiting her favorite place, Cades Cove. Sandy was an animal lover, especially bears, cows, and dogs. The family pets (Harry, Daphne, Katie, Sunny, Jessie and Lucky) ranked almost as highly as her human children. She was happiest when all of her family was together and we were blessed to be with her in her final hours. A private family memorial is planned. In lieu of flowers or cards, please donate to Sandy's favorite charity, The Humane Society's Mountain Shelter in Blairsville, GA.
