Samuel Paul Butt

Mr. Samuel Paul Butt, age 85, of Sandy Springs, Georgia, formerly of Blairsville, Georgia, passed away Thursday, February 5, 2009 at Altus House in Atlanta. Mr. Butt was born Thursday, July 5, 1923 in Union County, Georgia, to the late Arnold Butt and the late Nell McGaha Butt. Sam was a member of Zebulon Baptist Church in Blairsville, and had been previously active in North Georgia Honor Guard. Mr. Butt served in the U.S. Army during World War II, in the European Theatre, and was retired from Ford Motor Company. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Owenby Butt; and two sisters, Ruby Hyde and Juanita Kelley.

Surviving family members include daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy and Quinton Dyer, of Blairsville; son, Samuel Butt, Jr., of Atlanta; sisters: Lucille Jordan, Barbara Coker, Pauline Stephens, Louise Owenby, Claudine Southern, all of Blairsville; and Betty Patterson, of Dalton, Georgia; Six grandchildren: Julianna Branham, Lisa Heppard, Lori Wynn, and Jason Wynn; and Micah and Alexia Butt; four great grandchildren: Olivia and Ava Heppard; and Makenna and Keegan Wynn; many nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 8, 2009 at 2:30 p.m. from Cochran Funeral Home - Blairsville Chapel, with the Rev. Wofford Kelley officiating. Music will be provided by Louise Owenby. Interment will follow in Union Memory Gardens Cemetery, with military honors presented by North Georgia Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday evening, February 7; from 6 until 9 p.m..
