Ruth Molly Thomas, age 81, of Jamestown, passed away Tuesday, July 8, 2015 at Hospitality Home. She was born August 2, 1933 in Murphy, Cherokee County, North Carolina, one of 14 children born to Joseph and Florence (Farmer) Golden.
She was preceded in death by her parents, 4 sisters: Lou Forrister, Ethel Kitchen, Myrtle Wilson and Edna Golden and 7 brothers: James, Joseph Jr., Ray Earl Farmer, Clyde, France and John Henry.
She is survived by her husband of 34 years: John Thomas of Jamestown; children: Jerry (Kathy) Hatfield and Audra (Marvin) Greene, both of Jamestown; sisters: Shirley (Earl) Mullins of Miamisburg and Fay Yurchis of Murphy, NC; step children: John J. (Kristin) Thomas; Shannon (Terry) Ricther and Cliff (Linda) Thomas; grandchildren: Shane (Anita) Drake; Adam Drake; Angie (Michael) Dunlavey; Josh Hatfield and Ashlee Hamilton; great grandchildren: Madison Dunlavey; Dylan, Isaac and Oliver Drake; and a host of other family members and friends, including her best friends: Fay Marshall and Bernice Pruitt. Ruth was blessed to have an extended family of 7 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren, who also survive.
Ruth was a southern girl at heart. She returned to Xenia shortly after she married John Thomas, but enjoyed visiting the mountains several times a year. She was an excellent cook and very proud of her homemade cooking. She enjoyed playing cards and games; always had a beautiful flower garden and large vegetable garden. She was also an accomplished seamstress. She made handmade quilts, country décor and sculptured pigs which she sold at local festivals. Most importantly, Ruth was a very loving and caring mother and grandmother. Her favorite past times were doting on her grandchildren and showering people she loved with her food.
Funeral services will be held 11:30 AM Wednesday, July 15th at Cochran Funeral Home, Murphy NC, with Pastor Jerry Rice officiating. Interment will follow at the Simonds Chapel Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday from 10 AM until the time of service at the Cochran Funeral Home. Pallbearers include Marvin Greene, Shane Drake, Adam Drake, Dylan Drake, Jackie Arp, Earl Mullins Jr., Johnny Golden, and Trent Abling.
