Ruth Douthit

Ruth Douthit, 89, of Nantahala, North Carolina, passed away Thursday, February 23, 2023, at Union County Nursing Home in Blairsville, Georgia.

Ruth was born January 4th, 1934 in Beaverdam, North Carolina, to the late Dillard Whitener and the late Bonnie Young Roberts. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Nuel Douthit; brothers & sisters; and grandson, Harold Wimpey II.

She is survived by her daughter, Marlene Wimpey; granddaughters: Dena Wimpey, Jennifer (Luis) Wimpey-Fletes; great-grandchildren: Cheyenne Hutson, Connor Wimpey, Owen Wimpey-Fletes, Chelsee Hutson, Olivia Wimpey, Davis Wimpey, & Dylan Wimpey-Fletes.

Ruth was a lifelong resident of Nantahala, and was a member of White Oak Flats Baptist Church. She enjoyed spending her time reading, sewing, embroidering, crafts, listening to music, and loved flowers. She was deeply loved by her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was the "Best Ma in the World." 

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, February 27, 2023 at 2:30 pm at Briartown Baptist Church with Rev. Wade Plott officiating. The family will receive friends on Monday, February 27, 2023 before the funeral, starting at 2:00 pm at the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery, with the following persons serving as pallbearers: Ray Brown, Kevin Hutson, Luis Fletes, Gary Harkins, Harold Coker, and Dena Wimpey.

Family and friends will be accepted for an open invitation on Saturday, February 25, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. at Cochran Funeral Home in Blairsville.
