Cochran Funeral Home of Hiawassee announces funeral services for Mrs. Ruth Weatherington Baker, age 99, of Hiawassee, who passed away Thursday, December 22, 2011 in Brasstown Manor in Hiawassee.
Mrs. Baker was a native of Alabama, and was born October 19, 1912, a daughter of the late Illiam Darby Weatherington and the late Pallie Dell Berry Weatherington. She had lived in Hiawassee since 1983, moving there from Ocala, Florida. Mrs. Baker was a member of McConnell Memorial Baptist Church in Hiawassee, and had served as a Pink Lady for 25 years at Chatuge Regional Hospital in Hiawassee. Mrs. Baker and her husband had owned and operated various businesses in Florida. While living in Florida, Ruth was a Sunday School Teacher for 62 years. After retirement, Ruth and her husband had traveled extensively. She had been preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William Pat Baker; two brothers, Ralph and Royce Weatherington; and a sister, Rena.
Mrs. Ruth was a very sweet lady, and will be missed by many, and especially by her family: sister and brother-in-law, Robbie and John Pfaffenberger, of Cocoa, Florida; and niece and her husband, Linda and Dan Sell, of Cookville, Tennessee.
Funeral services are scheduled for Monday, December 26, 2011, at 2:00 p.m., and will be held in the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home in Hiawassee, with Rev. Harold Ledford officiating. Special music will be presented by Cheerful Sound. The following gentlemen have been requested to serve as pallbearers: Ron Abrams, Joe Varao, Ken Ott, Charles Nicholson, Jennings Ivester, and Fred Springs. Burial will be in Osborn Cemetery. Visitation at the funeral home will be held on Monday, December 26, 2011, starting at 11:00 a.m., and lasting until time for the funeral service to start.
