Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville announces funeral services for Mr. Roy Newton Patterson, age 79, of Blairsville, who passed away Friday, July 22, 2011 at his residence. Mr. Patterson was born in Ohio, on April 10, 1932, a son of the late Howard and the late Thelma Simmons Patterson. Roy was a veteran of the U. S. Army, and served during the Korean War. He had lived in Blairsville for most of his life, and was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. Roy loved to fish, and enjoyed his grandkids. He was a big Atlanta Braves fan, and was a very good cook. He had worked for a number of years in Ohio at a restaurant, "Hasty Tasty". In addition to his parents, Mr. Patterson was preceded in death by his first wife, to whom he was married for 42 years: Marie Dunn Patterson; two brothers, Evan Patterson and Preston Patterson; and a sister, Murrell Murray.
Roy is lovingly remembered by and will be greatly missed, especially by his family: his loving wife of 11 years, Reba Patterson; three daughters and sons-in-law: Joan and Kimsey Wright, of Dial, Georgia; Janet and Randall Alexander, of Dayton, Ohio; Cathie and Jeff Daniel, of Blairsville; two sons and daughters-in-law: Larry and Faye Patterson, of Cartersville, Georgia, and Nelson and Sarah Patterson, of Blairsville; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Geraldine and Norman Zecher, of Middletown, Ohio and Shirley and Don McClure, of McDonough, Georgia; sister, Rosella Patterson, of Middletown, Ohio; brother, Benny Patterson, of Blairsville; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Dale and Nora Patterson, of Blairsville; and Richard and Diane Patterson, of Blairsville; Twenty-one grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Patterson have been scheduled for Tuesday, July 26, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. from the Chapel of Cochran Funeral Home of Blairsville, with Rev. Cotton Harris and Rev. Ray Potts officiating. Special music will be presented by The Faith Singers. The following gentlemen have been selected to serve as pallbearers: Andrew Edward, David Nix, Shane Patterson, James Smith, Randall Alexander, and Gene Harkins. Burial will be in Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery, with military honors presented by North Georgia Honor Guard. Visitation at the funeral home will be held on Monday evening, July 25th, from 6 until 9 p.m.
