Cochran Funeral Home of Hiawassee announces funeral services for Mr. Rondal J. Nicholson, age 90, of Hiawassee who passed away Wednesday morning, July 17, 2013 at Chatuge Regional Nursing Home.
Rondal was born in Hiawassee on May 22, 1923 to the late Johnnie and Lucy (Powell) Nicholson. He drove a yoke of steers through Hiawassee before the roads were ever paved. He grew up during the depression which taught him the value of hard work and practicality. His work ethic was strong whether he was making 28 cents/ hr cutting timber or 98 cents/ hr in Ohio working for Diebold Safe & Lock. Rondal married his childhood sweetheart, Ms. Margie Montene Hooper in September of 1943. For the next 52 years they raised 3 children together and demonstrated a love of family that was an example to all. Rondal was a simple country man who loved his Lord and the family he was blessed to have. With a sacrificial love he would provide for his family, even if it meant going without. He never met a stranger and was quick to share his faith with anyone he met. He was Chairman of the Deacons at Enotah Baptist Church for 27 years. He was a member of Unicoi Masonic Lodge #259. He served 1 term as Towns County Clerk of Court. He enjoyed deer and coon hunting and was known for cooking the best fried venison ever tasted. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mrs. Margie Hooper Nicholson; his parents and 4 siblings.
He will be warmly remembered by all who knew him, but especially missed by his family: daughter, Sue Nicholson Maney; sons & daughters-in-law, Larry & Patricia Nicholson and Rev. Billy & Deborah Nicholson and sister, Della Mae Arrowood. 2 granddaughters, 1 grandson and 5 great grandsons also share in his legacy.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 19, 2013 from Enotah Baptist Church with Rev. Donnie Jarrard and Rev. David Berrong officiating. Music will be provided by the Enotah Baptist Church Choir and Pine Top Quartet. Interment will follow in Enotah Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors presented by the North Georgia Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday evening from 6 until 9 p.m.
